One question I did have (potentially for future videos, or maybe you're planning to cover it in future videos) is that of getting to know the niche you want to be in... for example, with your Dating business, did you know enough about dating from the get-go to really help your customers, or did you have to spend a lot of time & energy learning about successful means & ways to then distill into content to help your Dating program customers?

Basically, how do you go from not knowing very much about a niche to getting to a place where you have enough expertise & information to help those who are already very familiar with it, in a short amount of time?

Otherwise, again, outstanding video - I'm excited to put this stuff into action immediately. Thanks for moving the free line to give this much away :)

My fingers are sore from note taking at warp speed! That was one stream of great ideas and insights. I have often said that if I got one really good idea out of a paid seminar it was worth the price. I have had many close calls with zero. But in the last hour you broke my record (and did it for free). More ideas in one hour than ever before in one (paid) day!

As you know, that's often more valuable information than what a person is doing right.

Great video! I took 9 pages of notes that will literally reconstruct the way I have been organizing my product / service launch. Thanks! I can't wait for the next one!

I know this is specifically for information product marketers...but from a broader perspective, this information should be mandatory watching for (in general) business owners. Especially those who have a flawed paradigm as to how money is transfered from one individual to another.

If anyone has read Henry Fords book "My Life and Work", they'll quickly realize Ford had a very different mindset and deserved (in terms of meritocracy) to be owner of his company. He continually had in the forefront that the business was there to continually expand the service it delivered and profit was the 'juice' to fuel that service expansion. The money was a RESULT of something.

I can't do his book justice here but if you ever hope to get rich - you must check out his book...and then once you're done come back to what Eben is saying in this video.

Eben has in essence laid bare a 'formula' for getting rich. His clear understanding of VALUE creation and continually having the impression of increase in his delivery is not an accident. It is an ingredient that all asset rich individuals have instinctively or forced into themselves across all lines of business.

Money is the result of something. That 'something' is what Eben can teach you. And you're a damned fool for ignoring it if you ever hope to 'be rich' and bring expanding service to the world.

""Business" in the sense of trading with the people is largely a matter of filling the wants of the people. If you make what they need, and sell it at a price which makes possession a help and not a hardship, then you will do business as long as there is business to do. People buy what helps them just as naturally as they drink water." - Henry Ford

Eben is a modern day Henry Ford for Information Product marketers. He's teaching you the steps "which makes possession [of your product] a help and not a hardship." I am being tantalised by the comments enered by viewers of you videos and am feeling i am missing out on a whole lot of valuable free business education simply because of my hopeless dial-up connection in a third world country. Can i suggest that you provide an alternative format that we can save on our hard-drives? Please, i am frustrated with the videos streaming one second a day!!!

As I sit here, 2am in the morning with 6 pages of notes and ideas flowing like the Mississippi river, I realize that this is the Golden Ticket to everything you want in life, the free content you provide most guru's would sell for $997 in a home study course.

I probably won't get sleep tonight because I'm -realigning my budget- seeing what I can sell on eBay- what bills I can get rid of- what stuff can I return to the store -canceling a few dates I had planned, just to make sure that I have enough to invest in the guru mastermind program.

It's a FACT that you practice what you preach because, that video got me FIRED UP! and pulled alot of TRIGGERS to put me into MASSIVE ACTION just to be able to join the program in a couple of weeks.

I have flowcharts and plans already ready for the next couple weeks, to gear up, hopefully all my hard work pays off.

I'm not the type to brown nose, but this content deserves some.

Had a geat turnout and over 200 questions to work with. I actually moved the free line so far that even YOUR Mama would blush.

Can't say that flying solo for 75 minutes by essentially talking to myself is something many people should try at home alone, but being a broadcaster, I felt I pulled it off well enough. Admittedly, lot's of room for improvement, though.

Call to action time, and I had earlier prepared them that I had a coaching/consulting business that was taking on a few new clients.

Thus far, not one - zero - zilch - nada - response.

Am I discouraged? Nope!

I am, however, keenly more aware of the downside of giving too much free info away over a prolonged period, though.

You see, I was moving the free line before it became a popular buzzword in the IM lexicon, way back to 2001. My list has come to expect this from me...so why should they pay for it now?

My list has come to know me as the guy who provides a fairly expensive broadcast training service who gives LOTS of good tips, advice and information away. Now that I'm diversifying, they're not seemingly catching on.

The question I would ask would be advice for repositioning ourselves in a segment of the market in which we haven't been previously known for?

You can CALL yourself an expert worthy of consulting fees, but other have to be sold on the idea, as well.

I'd still do it all over, but would warn anyone reading this that people who come to you solely by freebies often develop an attitude of entitlement and seem less appreciative of the value being offered.

In other words, it's not a slam dunk that they ever move OFF the free line.

BTW, looks like you're in Santa Monica based upon the last video. I'm in Calabasas...perhaps we'll bump into each other on the Promenade:>))

Eben, this video should be banned. Or at least you should be charging $5000 for it. You've just boiled Jay A and Dan K down to the bare gold nuggets. What used to take 3-4 years to learn you gave away for free in 55 minutes.

To learn jiu jitsu in the 1990's you had to move to Brazil, live in a hut and study with a black belt for 5-7 years. Now you can learn jiu jitsu by watching youtube.

You've just done the same thing for guru creation!

You're destroying the need to worship at the feet of the 7 figure guru who gives it out in trickles.

But I also really hate your videos. Every time I think I'll just watch for five minutes but then you pull me in and a hours gone. Your free line and infinity must be best pals.

Can you please always mention what the intuitive thing is that most people do, which doesn't work, vs. the counter intuitive thing that really gets us places. And then describe the process for doing that counter intuitive.

Moving the Free line is a concept coined by Chris Anderson of wired magazine.... alot of your concepts you're talking about are stuff directly taken from Frank Kern Mass Control the couse you got for free and promoted last month, you just rephrased in your own words...

Kristy, check out Dr. Clotaire Rapaille's PBS documentary "The Persuaders". There's an interesting thing she discusses about the reptilian brain where people won't admit to certain things, but those very things "work" on them.

I remember Eben mentioning in his dating program the reptilian brain, but can't remember if he provided other resources.

Hey Eben- John here. My update... Like I said my ppc it converting on avg at 11.35% for sign ups but only .25% for sales. Your suggestion of "interviewing" the prospect using a free 15 minute eval was a neat idea but I'll be honest I had some trepidation up selling into a 99.00 deal.

Good news. It was just a block on my part. After getting over my internal challenges, I made my 1st up sell on my 3rd try. I guess the 3rd time really is the charm :)
BUT here's the thing. My original ideas were just OK now I'm getting much better ideas and I'm more on target now that Ive had a chance to listen to my customers.
I need to rethink the presentation and the sale letter.

I run a website that helps people get six pack abs.

Here's how I moved the freeline:

I made a video and put it up on YouTube. The video contains my 3 best advanced exercises.

At the end of the video, I direct people to my website. Before this, I used to sell an abdominal training program for $97 on my website (long salesletter). Now I've made a free smaller version that people get right away when they sign up (squeeze page). They also get a free beginner 6-part course (video, audio and text) that takes place on my blog and is managed using autoresponders.

If you consider me for your scholarships I'll be a great student. I'm 23, poor family, at school at the moment and I don't think I'll be able to afford it. I was surprised to learn you come from a poor background, too. I know I'll get rich anyway, so it's OK if you pick other people.

Here's what I learned so far (from moving the freeline, see other post below):

- Many more people show interest (subscribe to the newsletter)

- People willingly share the info (since it's valuable), so marketing becomes "viral".

- I get comments on how to improve my product: PEOPLE TELL ME WHAT THEY WANT.

You are right about posting free advice - I put up just one article on SelfGrowh.com and then created an expert page there (helped my SEO) and within two weeks about 20 people asked to network with me. I also noticed increased traffic to my new website and autoresponder www.lawofattractioninlove.com. My "problem" is finding the time to post these articles at all these sites!

I totally resonate with giving more value for free. It has always been my nature to do so and was afraid in the past I was giving away too much. Now I know from you that I was doing something RIGHT! I just need to followup with the other steps...

I just started (this week!) doing a free radio show for my customers (it has doubled to 19!! yeah!) and I advertised the radio show to my list and my friends...and I got 9 live listeners!! I'm so excited. My friends and one customer gave me immediate feedback that the content was excellent.

I also put up a "Ask Dr. Karen" box on my site so I can discover what people want and need help with. I use what they tell me to write my free newsletters and to post on my blog and on my radio show. I feel it has been very effective. Thanks for validating this technique of asking your customer what they need and delivering to them. So far none of the 19 has bought my eBook yet and I always refer to it...Maybe the content of the eBook is not what they want.

I don't understand the part about why you want to do three, five or ten consults at once since there is no price savings if a person signs up for one vs. ten. Did I miss something?

The one thing you said kind of depressed me which was not expecting to make money on my eBook (but using the list as profit). I get it, but I am so much in debt right now, I really wanted to make some passive income ASAP! Help!

I have also some questions:
Is there any possibility to record or replay the webinars because I am also from Europe and those webinars are during night?

How to become guru in my niche? It requires a lot of work and you cant be just one step ahead of your customers. You must behave like a guru in your niche I think.

I really like giving consultations for $99 but I would like to know how to get around this because my English isnt fluent (and perfect but I am working hard on it :). The same is for creating Live show (seminar). Is there any way how to pass this? I think surveys could be fine and instead of live show just membership site would be great but I am not sure.

I think you skipped how to do a proper market research - so how to do it? Googling the competition, checking search counts from Wordtracker, checking the topsellers in that particual niche?

And the last but the most important question:
If you are giving the best for free what will remain for customers who buy your product? This question really makes me crazy :-)

SOMETHINGS A MISS THOUGH:
it does seem though that you slip up and present a far more exploitive marketing philosophy. or, maybe just a more traditional one?
For example, in this above video, you cut the video out at 48:30 minutes or so, because you start talking about perceived value been super important. Then you cut into a added segment where you emphasis the importance of high value product as being as important as high value perception. Ive noticed cuts before like this when your trying to make it sound that your really into high value products when really you sound, imo, more interested or jazzed up when talking about creating high perceived value in your product/ service. I wonder what others think? I cool with whatever your view is and would just rather you speak your truth. MArketing = honesty? eeee....tough one.
